Our initiatives
We support the DTES community through three key initiatives: regular meal distribution to ensure food security, monthly care packages providing essential necessities, and community connection programs that bring people together. Our work focuses on meeting immediate needs while fostering meaningful relationships and demonstrating the positive impact of collaborative community action.

Distributions
With our monthly distributions, Project Hastings aims to provide vulnerable individuals with food and resources that improve their quality of life. On the last Sunday of every month, Project Hastings works to distribute items such as sandwiches, water bottles, snacks, sanitary products, clothing, and more to residents of the Downtown Eastside. We recognize that even small contributions can bring significant benefits, and we hope our contributions leave a positive, lasting impact on the community.
Youth Empowerment
At Project Hastings, we also look to provide driven high school students with opportunities to help those in need. By establishing a safe, supportive environment for young students to aid their community, we hope to inspire youth to create change wherever needed. With over 300 volunteers from all over the Lower Mainland, we also work to connect like-minded individuals who work together towards a common goal!

Community Connections
Project Hastings works to bring various parts of the community together in order to help alleviate disparity. We collaborate with other humanitarian organizations to supply more individuals with more food and resources; interview community residents to shine a light on their side of the story; and discuss important issues with prominent members of the field to gain insight on the decision-making behind various policies and projects.

Project Hastings realizes the importance of teaching younger generations about their city and the people who live in it. Project Hastings UBC is implementing a program to help elementary school students learn about issues in the Downtown Eastside and what Project Hastings is doing in response!
